Cathy’s Bouzouki
Commissioned by Cathy Andrews, Sydney, Australia
This Bouzouki has unique soundboard bracing, not the traditional ‘X’ and/or ‘H’ style, but rather:
Carbon Fibre Reinforced Falcate (Sickle Shaped) Bracing, which greatly increases the soundboard stiffness.
Back and Sides - East Indian Rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia)
A world renowned tonewood, with unmistakable sound performance, becoming difficult to acquire.
This set has the typical dark purple-brown hues, with near perfect straight grain.
Sound Board – Torrified Adirondack Spruce (Picea rubens)
Adirondack or Red Spruce is considered by many to be The Holy Grail of Soundboards. With too many desirable qualities to list all here. Just to mention a few, It is louder with a higher ceiling volume, and more dynamic than Sitka Spruce and has less distortion when played aggressively. Once Torrified it has higher resonant frequencies and is much more immune to physical changes due to fluctuations in relative humidity.
Bindings, Headstock, Bridge, Fretboard and Bridge Pins - Ebony (Diospyros spp.)
Jet black, hard-wearing with a tight interlocking grain make this species ideal for these applications.
Neck – Torrified American Curly Maple (Acer spp.)
One of the most popular woods for instruments. It is very stable and can be visually stunning. This neck has been cut, rotated, and rejoined effectively making it quarter sawn, increasing its strength and giving it that tiger stripe appearance. With an Art Deco Headstock design having Birdseye Huon Pine to the rear of the headstock.
information Tuners - Gotoh Baby 510 series, Gold c/w Ebony buttons
The smallest closed gear, made to order tuners, exceptional high quality and recognized as such around the world.
Finish - High Gloss Nitro Cellulous Lacquer
Hand Levelled and Polished to mirror finish. A hardwearing lacquer that is chemical resistant and easily repaired.
