Central Queensland (Inland) Rosewood - Acacia rhodoxylon.
A small tree attaining a height of 10 to 15 m and a stem diameter of 15 to 25 cm. The stem and branches are often fluted. Bark is dark in colour and shed in curly flakes. Found in coastal and subcoastal parts of Central Queensland from near Eidsvold, north to south-east of Mt Garnet.
Has a deep red-brown to dark brown heartwood with cream to white Sapwood. A straight grained wood, sometimes having wavy interlocking grain (Ringing).
Has a Very fine and even texture, quite hard and dense, rated at 1 for Hardness and density of 1280 kg/m3
Exceptionally durable and readily accepts a finish.
Often used for Resonating parts of xylophones, Fingerboards and chin rests for violins (a substitute for ebony).
It is extensively used for fence post in its area or origin.
