Nothofagus cunninghamii, does not resemble the European Myrtle, and is not related. It became known as "Myrtle" only through common usage of the early timbermen. Myrtle is a beautiful timber with deep rich colours of red, orange, brown and also pink. Myrtle produces beautiful burlwood and also Tiger Myrtle which is created by spalting.
